So how do you build trust in your business? Especially when you run the majority of your business online?

It’s not as hard as you think! Here are six ways you can start building trust in your business right away...

The ONE Thing You Need for a Successful Brand

The ONE Thing You Need for a Successful Brand

There are a number of things that contribute to a great brand—a cohesive brand identity, compelling logo, and killer website, to name a few. But there is really only ONE thing you need for a successful brand. That one thing, my friend, is a brand strategy

A brand strategy is simply a plan for developing and managing your business’s reputation (i.e. brand). In a nutshell, your brand strategy outlines what you do, how you do it, who you do it for, and why you do it. Pretty simple but so, so important!

There are five key pieces to a brand strategy...

Don’t Design Your Website Until You Do These 3 Things

Building a website is a feat. But it’s not as scary as it may seem! Knowing what needs to be done and creating a plan to do it is half the battle. And the best thing about websites? You can edit, update, and change at any point. Nothing is set in stone.

There are three steps you should take before you even think about designing your website. It doesn’t matter if you’re DIYing or working with a designer OR if this is for a new website or a redesign. Doing these three things will ensure your website is prepped for success...

Behind-the-Scenes: Designing My Brand

Behind-the-Scenes: Designing My Brand

Designing the brand identity for your own company has to be one of the most difficult projects you’ll have as a designer. For one, it feels like you are branding yourself and two, you have to play the roles of both client and designer. (And I am the pickiest client I’ve ever had!) On the bright side, separating myself into these roles gave me valuable insight into what it’s like in my clients’ shoes. 👞👞

Here’s a behind-the-scenes peek at my brand design process and how I used it to build the brand for my design studio, Incandescent Creative. I’ll take you through my brand strategy, moodboard, and brand style board (logo, fonts, color palette, and graphic elements). Read on to see the method to my madness!

7 Reasons to Switch from Wordpress to Squarespace

7 Reasons to Switch from Wordpress to Squarespace

Wordpress versus Squarespace—the debate is almost as fierce as the one over how to say “GIF.” (For the record, I’m a firm believer in the hard G, not the peanut butter pronunciation.) Wordpressers argue for control and flexibility, while Squarespacians argue for simplicity and ease of use.

Ultimately, it comes down to an open vs. closed source platform. Both Wordpress and Squarespace are the leaders of each space, respectively. Other open platforms include Wix, Joomla, and Drupal. Other closed platforms include Shopify, Weebly, and Adobe Portfolio. Each has its benefits and what may be best for one person may not be the best for someone else.

I had used Wordpress for my website and the majority of my clients’ sites for years, but while re-evaluating my website last year, I decided to make the switch to Squarespace. Here’s why...

Client Project: Rebrand for Edgecase, Inc.

Edgecase is a start-up SaaS company from Austin, Texas. Formerly Compare Metrics, Inc., the tech company changed its name to Edgecase in 2014 and came to me for a new logo design. They wanted a logo that played well with their current brand identity but that embodied their new name and spirit.

Compare Metrics had revised their visual identity only a year before. The bright colors and Swiss style aesthetic stood out at trade shows and they started to become known as the cool kids on the block. They didn’t want to stray far from the brand they’d just begun to build, but every new name deserves a fresh face.

Client Project: Brand & Website Design for Lauren Tomasella Photography

Lauren Tomasella is an incredibly talented wedding and lifestyle photographer based in Huntsville, Alabama. Since starting her business in 2011, she wanted a brand that truly represented who she is and that reflected her unique photography style. She struggled to find clarity with her brand for a year (!) before coming to me for a brand and website redesign.

Lauren’s new brand identity captures the feelings from her photos – happy, natural, relaxed. An emphasis on whitespace keeps her brand feeling modern and fresh, while ensuring the focus is on her photography.

Wedding Belles is a wedding and event planning company based in Alabama who came to me for a logo redesign and brand refresh. The founder, Katie, wanted a feminine, romantic, and rustic brand style that reflected her philosophy of how weddings, like marriages, are “partly imperfect but totally beautiful.”
